Back On Track

Getting Adolescent Vaccination Back on Track

The ongoing coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has created unprecedented challenges for healthcare providers, patients, and policy-makers. One outcome from the past few months is dramatic declines in vaccination. The CDC reported that orders for vaccines have declined sharply since the emergency declaration (MMWR, May 8, 2020). A recent study showed a 71% drop in healthcare visits for 7-17-year-olds, ages when critical vaccines like Tdap, HPV, and meningitis are given. These declines put children and communities at greater risk for outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases.

The National HPV Vaccination Roundtable created this page to help our disease prevention partners access resources to help remind parents of the vital need to protect their children against serious vaccine-preventable diseases, even as the COVID-19 pandemic continues.

As social distancing requirements are relaxed it is more important than ever to get routine vaccination “back on track.”

What Can You Do?

  3. Prioritize vaccination. When state/local conditions allow, act quickly to catch-up patients on all recommended vaccines.
  4. Plan for summer as your window to “get back on track” with well visits and immunizations.
  5. Check out our new “Back on Track” YouTube Playlist and let us know on social how you are getting “back on track” — tag #backontrack and the @hpvroundtable with your posts.
